Replication configuration lives inside each protection plan (step 5 of the creation wizard) and controls when and how changed data moves from source to target. Bandwidth throttling is configured globally or per node under Settings → Throttling.
Replication parameters
| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Start Time | datetime | required | Time from when protection plan replication starts. |
| Replication Interval | duration | required | Interval at which each VM’s changed data is replicated. This is the plan’s RPO target. |
| Encryption on Wire | boolean | optional | Encrypts data in transit from source to destination. |
| Compression | boolean | optional | Compresses data in transit; the dashboard reports the resulting data-reduction percentage. |
| Dedupe | boolean | optional | Enables deduplication of transferred chunks. A DeDupe node must be configured on the recovery site first. |
| Differential Reverse Replication | boolean | optional | Allows recovered machines on the recovery site to replicate back to their original source differentially. |
| Synchronize All VM Replication | boolean | optional | Replicates all VMs in the plan with a similar sync time. Without it, each VM schedules independently at the configured RPO. |
Advanced configuration
Advanced options depend on the source and target platform; they are applied per VM.
| Option | Description | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Quiesce Guest OS | Quiesces the guest when taking snapshots, enabling application-consistent snapshots for Windows VMs. Enabled by default; can be disabled per VM. | VMware as source |
| Replication Priority | AWS caps parallel snapshot writes at 100 per account; beyond that Datamotive replicates 80 disks and queues the rest. Priority controls which VMs are scheduled first. | AWS as target (snapshot storage) |
| Target Storage | Replicate selected VMs directly to EBS volumes instead of AWS snapshots (the default). Changes to an existing VM take effect after the current replication job completes. | AWS as target |
Resync and full re-replication
From Edit plan → Resync Disk Replication, you can force the entire disk data to be re-replicated for selected workloads — all VMs or individual ones, per disk (OS disk, data disks). Use this after events that invalidate incremental tracking. The per-disk job type (Full vs Incremental) is visible in the Disks job view.
Bandwidth throttling
By default the system uses the network's full capacity for replication transfers. To restrict it, go to Settings → Throttling:
| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enable Limit | boolean | optional | Caps bandwidth usage; set the limit with the usage slider or by entering a value. |
| Enable Time Limit | boolean | optional | Applies bandwidth limits only within configured time windows (start and end time). |
| Apply To All Replication Nodes | boolean | optional | Applies the same setting across all replication nodes. Per-node limits can be set individually via the node’s Actions menu. |
