First replication

Create sites and a protection plan, then run and verify your first replication iteration.

This workflow assumes the initial deployment is complete and verified. You will create the sites, build a protection plan, and watch the first replication iteration complete.

Create the sites

  1. Register the remote management node

    On the protected site's console, Configure → Nodes → + New: register the recovery site's management node (the local node registers automatically).

  2. Create the protection site

    Configure → Sites → + New: site type Protect, the source platform type, and the platform credentials — vCenter IP/port/user (VMware), access+secret key (AWS), project ID (GCP), or tenant/client/secret (Azure). See Sites.

  3. Create the recovery site

    Repeat with site type Recover for the target platform.

Create the protection plan

Walk the plan wizard (Configure → Protection Plans → + New) — the full walkthrough covers every field:

  1. General — name, protection site, recovery site.
  2. Virtual machines — select the VMs; for VMware sources click Enable CBT when prompted (VMware Tools must already be installed in each VM).
  3. Recovery configuration — per-VM instance type, storage, and network on the target platform.
  4. Boot order — sequence and delays.
  5. Replication configuration — start time and interval (your RPO), plus encryption on wire, compression, dedupe.
  6. Summary → Finish — replication jobs start automatically.

Watch the first iteration

The first iteration replicates each disk in full; later iterations transfer changed blocks only.

  1. Monitor under Jobs → Replication

    Track the plan, per-VM, and per-disk views: changed and transferred bytes, duration, and job status.

  2. Wait for init-success

    Each VM's sync status moves through init-in-progress and init-sync-in-progress to init-success. The status vocabulary is in Status check.

  3. Check the dashboard

    The dashboard's replication statistics, VM protection analysis, and bandwidth widgets should now show activity. RPO tracking starts with the second iteration.

Once VMs are in sync, validate recoverability with a first failover test.
